Bay Area News Group (BANG), the media company that owns The Oakland Tribune, Contra Costa Times and other Bay Area newspapers, announced plans Thursday to keep these newspapers and offer community media labs to better connect with their communities.
Maynard Institute president Dori J. Maynard was present at the news conference and spoke about the history of the Institute's partnership with the Oakland Tribune, including the legacy of her father, Robert C. Maynard, Institute co-founder and past owner of the Tribune.
Martin Reynolds, former Oakland Tribune editor and 2005 Media Academy grad, who was just named BANG's senior editor for community engagement, also announced that the Institute would partner with the Tribune in the development of the media labs.
