Maynard President Dori Maynard sat on a panel to discuss diversity issues in the media Monday for the U.S.-European Best Practices Exchange on Promoting Social Cohesion through Broadcast Media, hosted by the U.S. State Department.
She discussed the Institute’s Fault Lines framework and the importance of viewing news stories through the lenses of race, class, gender, generation and geography, and cited examples of what can happen when those frames are not considered.
The audience included broadcast journalists from France, Morocco, Germany, the United Kingdom and The Netherlands.
The event offered three panels consisting of professionals from various media and non-profit organizations, such as Milica Pesic, Executive Director at Media Diversity Institute; James Jones, Vice President of Education Programs, National Association of Multi-Ethnicity in the Media; and DeLinda Mrowka, President of MaxMark Media.
