Maynard Multimedia Editing Program Class of 2011 Fellow Michael Thompson is now the editor of the Sauk Prairie Eagle in Wisconsin. Thompson will also continue as assistant editor at the Portage Daily Register. "It's an interesting coverage area," he said Wednesday. "Sauk City and Prairie du Sac sit right next to each other on the Wisconsin River and are wrapped up in each other's affairs. As a whole, they're called 'Sauk Prairie' and share a school district, airport and more. Bald-eagle watching is big down here, so 'Eagle' shows up in many local names."

Thompson also noted changes at the Portage Daily Register since returning from Maynard training: "I'm also happy to say that we started using Flip cameras several months ago. We've been using short-form videos and seeing some good numbers. The reporters really have taken to them. We also have put together a few Soundslides presentations, used online mapping more than before and better organized our photo galleries. People are thinking in multimedia terms now. There is still so much more to do. The fellowship was a terrific program."
