2009 Multimedia Editing Program alum Dave Woods has announced The Joplin Globe's Eppy win for Best News or Event Feature on a Website in the Under 250,000 Unique Monthly Visitors class. "All that Maynard stuff really pays off," Woods said.

Maynard grad sells publication, champions community newspapers

MIJE graduate (1995) Maria Elena Alvarez sold her free community niche newspaper after 8 years as its publisher. The sale of Prime Time Monthly News in Albuquerque, NM was a testament to the strength of free community niche newspapers. Her paper served Boomers and Seniors and sold for the standard industry rate – no discounts.  She credits what she learned during her 1995 seven-week MIJE fellowship with making it possible for her to understand all silos of the business and making it possible for her to more than double the revenues of the business and win numerous community awards.

 
  

Maynard Grad named Editor at local newspaper

Maynard Multimedia Editing Program Class of 2011 Fellow Michael Thompson is now the editor of the Sauk Prairie Eagle in Wisconsin. Thompson will also continue as assistant editor at the Portage Daily Register. "It's an interesting coverage area," he said Wednesday. "Sauk City and Prairie du Sac sit right next to each other on the Wisconsin River and are wrapped up in each other's affairs. As a whole, they're called 'Sauk Prairie' and share a school district, airport and more. Bald-eagle watching is big down here, so 'Eagle' shows up in many local names."

 
  

Maynard Grad Named IAPA President

Maynard reporting program graduate and Washington Post senior editor Milton Coleman has been appointed president of the Inter American Press Association, a nonprofit dedicated to defending free speech and free press in the Americas. Coleman is also the immediate past president of the American Society of News Editors.

Latoya Peterson, a graduate of this year's Media Academy, was a panelist at a plenary session at last week's Online News Association convention in Boston. The session topic was  “Race, Gender and Technology: the Third Rail?.” MIJE president Dori Maynard spoke during the session as well.

Also spotted at ONA: Sharon Prill, a Management Training Center graduate and now a year into her job as publisher of the Yakima Herald Republic.
