Black History Month - Leandra Abbott
Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Leandra Abbott started her journalism career as the first black female on staff at Cosmopolitan Magazine in 1967.  Soon thereafter, Abbott found herself working at Newsweek, where she was charged with reporting on civil rights issues.  Noting that, as an African American, she, “had the unspoken or spoken responsibility…. to make sure stories represented African Americans accurately.” Abbott continues to write and speak to further the cause of African Americans.
